Transparent LCD vs Transparent OLED

Transmittance, brightness, cost and lifetime differences, and which technology suits a retail or museum case.

How the two panels differ

A transparent LCD needs a controlled backlight and has a visible tint; transparent OLED emits its own light and is clearer, but is significantly more expensive and less common in large cabinet sizes.

Brightness and content

Both technologies look best with bright graphics on a dark background. LCD cabinets can balance internal LED lighting against the object behind the glass.

Size and availability

Transparent LCD is widely available in 43" and 55" cabinet formats and can be tiled for 4K video walls. Transparent OLED is usually limited to specific sizes and lead times.

Which to choose

For a lockable retail or museum case with a controlled budget, transparent LCD is normally the practical choice. Choose OLED when maximum see-through clarity is the dominant requirement.
