Luxury Retail Transparent Showcase
A representative specification for a see-through LCD cabinet in a bright jewellery or watch window, with real stock visible behind the footage.
This page is a representative configuration scenario, not a named customer case study. It describes how a Lumivue system would be specified for this type of space. Actual sizes, content and site works are confirmed in the layout drawing issued with a quotation.
Scenario brief
A retail window has to sell the physical product, not replace it. A transparent LCD showcase keeps the merchandise on display while a moving layer adds the detail a static ticket cannot: movement, material, scale and the story behind the piece. The commercial risk is glare, so the specification starts with the light in the window rather than with the screen.
The space and its constraints
This scenario assumes a street-facing window with strong daylight for part of the day, a counter depth of roughly 600 mm and a viewing distance of 0.5 to 2 m. The cabinet sits behind the glazing rather than in direct sun. A bright, evenly lit background behind the transparent panel helps the footage read clearly; a dark back panel produces deeper blacks but hides less of the stock, so the choice is made on site with a sample.
Recommended configuration
A countertop transparent showcase handles a single hero piece, while a larger floor-standing cabinet carries a small collection. The lockable glass door, internal shelf lighting and concealed player are supplied as one assembly. An optional IR touch frame is useful only when staff will actively demonstrate a catalogue; for an unattended window it adds a surface that needs daily cleaning and is usually left out.
Content production
Footage is composed with the centre of the panel left clear so the real object stays visible. Short macro shots, slow rotation and a single line of specification text work better than a full-screen advertisement. Loops are kept under 20 seconds and exported with a black or dark background, then grouped into a day playlist that can be swapped for a campaign without touching the hardware.
Installation and commissioning
The counter must support the cabinet weight, provide a hidden power feed and leave a ventilation path at the rear. Commissioning covers panel transmittance calibration against the actual window light, shelf-light balance, door alignment, loop playback from a cold start and a cleaning demonstration for store staff. A printed quick card is left with the cabinet so shift changes do not depend on one trained person.
What to confirm before ordering
Confirm the window orientation and peak daylight, the size of the largest item that must sit behind the panel, whether the cabinet is lockable after hours, the destination voltage, and who will update the seasonal playlist. These determine panel brightness, cabinet depth, shelf layout and whether a network CMS is worth including.

Configuration patterns on record
The rows below are configuration patterns drawn from our product range and from anonymised installation records. Client names, locations and site photographs are deliberately omitted. Use them as specification guidance, not as named customer references.
| Venue pattern | Configuration | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Jewellery counter | 32 or 43 inch transparent LCD showcase with shelf lighting and a lockable door | Real stock stays visible behind the panel; footage is composed around the object rather than across it. |
| Watch window | 49 inch 4K transparent showcase with a non-touch Android player | Unattended playback; omitting the touch frame leaves one less surface to clean each day. |
| Luxury boutique | 55 inch landscape transparent cabinet with an IR touch frame | Staff-led demonstrations can pull up a catalogue without leaving the display. |
| Tiled feature wall | Two or more transparent panels joined into one showcase face | Content is split across the panels; each panel keeps its own player and power feed. |
| Artefact or collectible case | High-transmittance LCD glass with a dark or bright back panel option | The background is chosen on site with a sample because contrast depends on the light behind the glass. |

Questions this scenario usually raises
01Is a transparent LCD readable in a sunny window?
It is readable when the unit is specified for the light level and the footage uses high contrast. A site photo and window orientation are enough to set the brightness and background treatment before production.
02Can the merchandise still be seen with the video running?
Yes. The content is composed around the object rather than across it, so the physical product remains the focal point and the video supplies motion and annotation around it.
